The Covid-19 Struggle of International Fairs
05 December 2024

The coronavirus, which started in the state of Wuhan, China and spread all over the world in such a short time like two months, affected all industries, especially the service industry.

Based on the results of the research conducted by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) and Oxford Economics, an average of 30 thousand exhibitions are held annually around the world. It has a global volume of 325 billion dollars and contributes around 81 billion dollars to national economies. With fair organizations, three million people are employed in the world.

Numerous national and regional fairs are held around the world, and the number of fairs approved by UFI is 621. This year, due to the impact of the virus, 325 of these fairs were cancelled or postponed. The cancelled fairs have caused the aviation industry to lose approximately 30 billion dollars. Among the cancelled fairs, there are fairs with which Perge Architecture customers also made agreements.

The technology fair Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will take place in Barcelona, is one of the first major fairs to be cancelled in Europe. Afterwards, major fairs such as the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland and the Furniture Fair in Milan, Italy were postponed with the domino effect. In this process, 124 fairs were also affected in China. Along with China, 60 fairs were affected in Italy, which is one of the countries that had the most difficult time in this process. (Click for the reference)

Konya Agriculture Fair, which is Turkey's largest and Europe's third-largest fair, and the 25th İzmir Book Fair, both of which we serve as Perge Architecture, have also been postponed.

Dozens of domestic and international fairs have been cancelled and some of them have been postponed to a later date.

In the first quarter of 2020, we took a series of measures in order not to be affected by the extraordinary situation we faced. To overcome the problem together, we further strengthened our cooperation and communication with our customers.

Perge Architecture Office will serve its customers by working from home for a while in this process.

We hope that this negative situation affecting the whole world will end as soon as possible and life will return to normal.

Wish you health and safety.
